Uncompromising, but always entertaining, three level craft-beer bar opposite the Odeon cinema and the imposing art deco Lothian House. There are however five cask beers, served from bat-handled taps and these are clearly identified on the beer list blackboard. Occasionally a cask beer may also be gravity dispensed. The entrance level is suited to "vertical drinking", the lower seating area is a little quieter with some sofas while upstairs there are stools with larger tables and seating. There is also the small Alpha Project brewery visible through glass panels. After a few beers, check out the quirky toilet fittings. Children welcome until 8pm. There is no children's menu but items such as hot dogs may suit. Tap takeovers and 'Meet the Brewer' events often held. NOTE: Beer is only served in 2/3 and 1/3 pint measures.
