  • Pints of View Winter 2024 Wednesday 4 December 2024

    The Winter 2024 issue of Pints of View magazine will be appearing shortly in real ale outlets in the branch area. This issue includes articles on the Cumberland Bar and Thompson's Bar and a look at some early branch newsletters from the 1970s.

    This issue will also shortly be available online on Issuu or as a downloadable PDF on the Pints of View Magazine page.

  • Roger Preece Saturday 23 November 2024

    It is our sad duty to report the death of Roger Preece on 17th November. Roger was one of the founder members of this branch 50 years ago and he served in many roles until moving away from the area. Later, he returned and was active in roles as Treasurer, Webmaster, and then served as Chair from 2010 to 2014, until moving away from the area once again. We extend our condolences to his wife Kate and their daughter. An appreciation will be part of the 30th November meeting and, specifically, at the 50th anniversary event in January.

    The results of the Scottish Champion Beer of Britain heats, decided by blind judging, held at CAMRA's Ayrshire Real Ale Festival in Troon on Friday 4th October were as follows:

    We are very sorry to report that John Pinheiro, a long-time member and our Branch Treasurer for the last 10 years, passed away suddenly last month.

    The Summer 2024 issue of Pints of View magazine will be appearing shortly in real ale outlets in the branch area. This issue includes articles on the Blue Blazer and Bow Bar pubs, traditional German cider, and different beer dispense methods.

  • Beer Day Britain - 15th June Tuesday 11 June 2024

    This Saturday 15th June is 'Beer Day Britain', a day when we are encouraged to raise a pint together, to celebrate all kinds of beer. We will be meeting at Steel Coulson Southside for 6:30pm, in time to get a pint in before the official 7pm 'Cheers to Beers' happening across the UK. All welcome to join, or raise a pint in your local at the same time!

  • Overall Pub of the Year 2024 Friday 15 March 2024

    The overall winner of the Branch Pub of the Year 2024 is the Cobbles Freehouse & Dining, Kelso. Congratulations to all at the Cobbles! A presentation will be held on April 6th (time tbc). The Cobbles will go forward into the Scottish Pub of the Year competition with results expected in late July.

    Cider Pub of the Year

    Every year local CAMRA members vote to select Pubs of the Year for Edinburgh, Lothian and the Borders.

    To be considered, a pub must consistently sell real ale in good condition as measured by members beer scores.

    Members then judge the pub on the quality of the real ale and other aspects such as the service, welcome, atmosphere, style, decor, value for money and community focus.

    The overall winner for Edinburgh & SE Scotland will now be selected by a team of CAMRA judges and announced in due course.

  • Pints of View Winter 2023/2024: coming in January Thursday 21 December 2023

    Due to logistical reasons, the Winter 2023/24 issue of our branch magazine, Pints of View, will be delayed until early in the New Year.
