Handpumps were replaced in 2025 with new tall founts, three for the real ales and one for cider. Located on the ground floor of a corner tenement, this small pub has a loyal clientele drawn from the locals and the transient student population and on some evenings can be busy. It comprises a single room on the ground floor and a basement room where the functions are held. The bar has large windows overlooking the street. It is furnished with comfortable banquette seating along two walls, central tables and chairs and bar stools and can be cramped when busy. The cask beers change regularly, and are usually from independent breweries, particularly including Bellfield, Fyne, Tempest, Cromarty, and Timothy Taylor, with occasional beers from Stewarts, Loch Leven, Cross Borders and other small brewers. There is regular entertainment, sometimes free, in the basement room, often Jazz, Blues or Soul music and occasional comedy events. Food can be provided by arrangement for functions, but food can be brought in and takeaways delivered to the bar (excepting fish dishes). NOTE: Card only - no cash. The ladies toilet is located in the basement. Children are not admitted.
